What is osteopathy ?

In brief, Osteopathy is a way of detecting and treating damaged parts of the body such as muscles, ligaments, nerves and joints. When the body is balanced and efficient, just like a well tuned engine, it will function with the minimum of wear and tear, leaving more energy for living.

Cranial Osteopathy aims to treat the person holistically, i.e. not just the physical condition. It is helpful to people of all ages and has been successful in treating diverse conditions such as acute back and neck pain, migraines and sinus problems.

In 1993, Osteopathy became the first complementary health care profession to gain statutory recognition. All Osteopaths must be registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) and also with the Osteopathic Council of Ireland (OCI) which is the regulatory body for Osteopaths in Ireland.

Qualification as an Osteopath requires completion of a four year BSc (Honours) Degree course in Osteopathy with extensive clinical training. All Osteopaths must have medical malpractice insurance and adhere to a professional code of conduct.
